Three Dead and One Injured in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Shooting
The AP reports that three people were killed and a fourth person was wounded in a shooting at an oceanfront motel in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Saturday night.
Myrtle Beach Police Captain David Knipes said that the shootings took place around 11PM on Saturday at the Bermuda Sands Motel along the beach's boardwalk.
The Sun News spoke to a witness, George Covington, who said that several people were seen fighting moments before the shooting. He continues:
"At first, everyone was standing around to see who was going to win the fight. Then they started shooting and everyone scattered. They started to come back and then I just heard [several gunshots], then everything was quiet."
Horry County deputy coroner Darris Fowler reports that the victims were Devonte Dantzler, 21, of Summerville; Sandy Gaddis, 22, of Summerville; and Jamie Williams, 28, of Ladson. The fourth victim is hospitalized.
Captain Knipes said that there are no suspects in custody, but that they've "got detectives working on it around the clock." He would not say whether the detectives have determined a motive for the shooting, but that it didn't appear to be random.
The shooting happened during the annual Atlantic Beach BikeFest, during which police say they typically deal with motorcycle wrecks and lesser offenses, but rarely violence.
According to Knipes, Myrtle Beach had just two homicides in all of 2013.
