This magnificent specimen of American womanhood, who was photographed flipping off NBA player Joakim Noah at last night's Bulls-Heat game, is so much more than just an angry sports fan. She's also a serial wife and once-accused husband-murderer.

Filomena Tobias, whose identity was confirmed by her daughter to the Sun-Sentinel today, has quite a back story, which The New York Times reported in part back in 2007:

It was just after midnight on Sept. 4 when [CNBC host and investment manager Seth] Tobias's wife, Filomena, frantically called 911, the emergency telephone number. "Please send somebody, please!" she screamed. "He's not breathing!" By the time the police arrived, she had pulled her husband's body to the edge of the pool, where she cradled his head in her arms, sobbing.

Seth Tobias was 44 years old. He had apparently suffered a heart attack, his brother Spence said at the time. The police did not consider his death suspicious. [...]

[Seth Tobias'] brothers, Samuel, Spence, Scott and Joshua, claim that Filomena Tobias drugged her husband and lured him into the pool, where he drowned. A former assistant to Seth Tobias has told the police that Filomena Tobias confessed to him that she had cajoled her husband, who was on a cocaine binge, into the water, promising him sex with a male go-go dancer know as "Tiger." A lawyer for Filomena Tobias has called the claims outrageous.

Filomena was cleared of charges (landing a nice bit of Tobias' estate in the process), and the story told by "Tiger" fell apart. Nonetheless, a long and well-worth-it article about the scandal in New York Magazine a year later expands our portrait of Filomina (also known as Phyllis), courtesy Palm Beach lawyer Jay Jacknin, husband number three:

“She had a great body,” [Jacknin] says. “Women love her. Men find her fascinating. I just couldn’t afford her.”

And an IM transcript between herself and Seth Tobias:

Phyllis: YOU ARE NOT CAPABLE OF STOPPING TO DRINK, OR DOING YOUR COKE OR BEING HONEST …

Seth: I am sad about this.

Phyllis: I HOPE YOU GET AIDS WIT ALL THE WHORES YOU FUK TOO.

Seth: I am sorry … take a breather.

Phyllis: NOW IT’S WAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Filomena's other two husbands, Vince Racanati and stockbroker Arthur Tolendini, have not (from what I can find) commented on her character, but one imagines they were similarly taken. Her daughter with Racanti, reached by the Sun-Sentinel, reports that "[a]ll she has to say is that people need to get a life."
