The President Is Shutting Down Prospect Park Tomorrow
All of Brooklyn's Prospect Park will be closed for much of tomorrow for President Obama. But where will the nannies go?? UPDATE: Only part of the park will be shut down, according to a statement posted to the park's website.
On Friday, the 585-acre park will be shut down for six hours while President Obama makes a speech at the Pathways in Technology Early College High School. He praised the school, which combines high-school and associate's-degree tracks into one six-year program, in his last State of the Union speech. But the school is about two miles away. Why close the park?
As it turns out, Obama seems to be ready to make an action movie-style entrance. On Tuesday, onlookers spotted two Marine helicopters landing in one of the park's baseball fields as part of a security drill. The president's chopper is slated to do the same thing tomorrow.
So how do the area's inconvenienced residents feel about the whole thing? One resident told CBS New York, "I don’t think it’s right, but at the end of the day it’s for his protection, so you gotta do what you gotta do."
