Last night, House Democrats made history as they staged a sit-in meant to pressure Republicans into voting on a stupid, inherently racist gun control bill. And since Speaker Paul Ryan unplugged C-SPAN’s cameras, the world was forced to look on through the fuzzy lens of Periscope and its thousands of hellish, very possibly drunk commenters. It was a masterpiece.

Representative Scott Peters did the majority of Congress’ Periscoping last night; at its peak, Peters had about 70,000 viewers. And on such an historic occasion, these tens of thousands of viewers had a lot on their mind, little of it on topic. Fortunately for us, they were more than happy to share.
