A man arrested by deputies in Florida for allegedly assaulting his pregnant girlfriend became the living embodiment of the "Thanks, Obama!" meme after he tried pinning the blame on the President.

Escambia County deputies were dispatched to the scene of a domestic dispute in the town of Century, where they found John Henry Shiffner, 18, and his 30-year-old girlfriend, Lakesha Tolbert.

Tolbert, who is 10 weeks pregnant, told deputies she was pushed to the ground by Shiffner who was "upset about a death in the family" and had been drinking.

As Shiffner, who denied shoving Tolbert, was being escorted into the back of a squad car, he "began rambling on about how Obama is right," according to the sheriff's report.

Deputy Matthew Bevins wrote that Shiffner told him "Obama said cops always listen to women."

The report goes on to state that Shiffner's mother denied buying alcohol for her son, and Shiffner denied he had been drinking.

He was ultimately booked on a charge of felony aggravated battery and misdemeanor disorderly intoxication.

Shiffner was still in jail as of Wednesday, unable to post his $3500 bond.
