COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA—Early on in his third-place victory speech last night, Ted Cruz asked the supporters gathered at the South Carolina State Fairgrounds to take a moment of silence for Antonin Scalia. The entire room fell quiet—mostly.

One supporter took the opportunity to deliver his own prayer, which was amplified by the dead-silent room and was clearly audible on the stage where Cruz was standing: “We ask that we never be asked to shut up again.”

Amen.
