Hamilton Nolan · 01/25/09 09:13AMThird Person in the Room Named in Scott Ruffalo Case
Richard Lawson · 12/16/08 12:24PMThe name of the third person possibly involved in the sad, strange case of Scott Ruffalo, the brother of actor Mark who was shot in the head and killed earlier this month, has been revealed. A man named Kristian Muradaz was arrested after the shooting (but before Mr. Ruffalo passed away) for attempted murder, TMZ tells us. The site also implies that the Russian roulette story, initially provided by fame-seeking (?) other person in the room Shaha Adham may still be in play. Ugh.
Wal-Mart's Advertising Charged With Murder
Hamilton Nolan · 12/04/08 09:44AMThe family of Jdimytai Damour, the Wal-Mart worker who was trampled to death at a Long Island store by a Black Friday mob hungry for discounts at any cost, has filed a lawsuit holding the company responsible for his death. And they're not just blaming the store's lack of security that morning; they're blaming Wal-Mart's ad campaign for turning sedate Long Islanders into a callous capitalist stampede of death:
Coen Brothers Movie Breaks Out in Rural Minnesota
Pareene · 11/04/08 09:33AMNew Jersey Man Got Engaged After Burying His Parents
Alex Carnevale · 10/26/08 02:00PMA horrifying true crime tale is unfolding today in our neighboring state. In South Brunswick the bodies of couple Michael and Kathleen Maltese were found in a park, and suspicion quickly pointed to their son, Michael A. Maltese, and his girlfriend Nicole Taylor. In a twist reminiscent of the current direction of Showtime series Dexter, the two decided to subsequently get engaged. It might not be Truman Capote macabre, but the full story will disturb you.The elder Maltese and his wife Kathleen were reported missing on October 17th, and they were found today in a park two miles from the mobile home where they lived. The two killers had been living on an inflatable mattress on floor of the victims' trailer home. The bodies were dumped into the shallow grave. The Star Ledger characterized the alleged mastermind:
The Horse Execution That Changed History
Hamilton Nolan · 08/13/08 01:39PMJohn Edwards mistress and new age nut Rielle Hunter had her humble beginnings under a different name: Lisa Druck. Growing up in Ocala, Florida (I've been there: grass, trees, Spanish moss, springs, that's it), her favorite pastime was riding show horses. But a tragedy befell her horse, and Druck eventually ended up as a drugged-out party girl in New York. Could this dark incident involving family, crime, and equine assassination have been the thing that eventually drove Rielle Hunter into the eager arms of John Edwards? If you're a new-age theorist like Hunter, the answer is a resounding "Yes!":
American Tourist Murdered in Beijing
ian spiegelman · 08/09/08 10:16AMThe Beijing Olympics got off to a rough start as a crazed attacker assailed two American tourists and a Chinese tour guide with a knife this morning, killing a man and wounding two women. The murder victim was a relative of the U.S. men's volleyball coach. The assailant committed suicide after the attack, according to authorities, throwing himself off the 45-meter Drum Tower. U.S. softball player Laura Berg and USOC spokesman respond to the tragedy after the jump.
PETA: Speaking Of Cannibal Bus Murders...
Hamilton Nolan · 08/07/08 09:35AMPETA is an enigma. Is that the right word? What I'm trying to say is, they behave like crackheads. While their primary cause (animal rights) is good, they suffer from a weird celebrity fascination, knee-jerk political stridency, and a love for nasty fake meat. They also try to pass off nudity as philosophy. And yes, PETA, we know you love provocative ads. But using last week's Greyhound Bus Cannibal Psycho Murders as a news peg is not the wisest way to win supporters: From a PETA press release:
