Earlier this year, a Hudson County Superior Court judge dismissed a former Jersey City cop’s whistleblower suit against the city itself, Jersey City’s public safety director, two former police chiefs, and eight other police officials. The retired cop, Frank DeFazio, claimed that an anti-government clique operating within the department’s Emergency Services Unit had targeted him for harassment, and that he had been subject to retribution from high-level police officials after he complained.

One afternoon in early January, just outside the small, north Texas town of Pottsboro, Vincent Smith shot and killed his friend, Charles Carter, who was drunk. The two were members of the American patriot movement, and they had been organizing, through Facebook, a march of gun rights evangelists on Washington. According to those who knew him, just before he was killed, Carter was expressing an interest in acquiring the makings of a bomb. The march imploded, just feet from where it began, before it ever got on the road.

On Monday evening, two members of the American militia movement, Charles Carter and Vincent Smith, got into an argument at Smith’s house, in the small Texas town of Pottsboro, just across the border from Oklahoma. The argument turned violent: Smith shot Carter in the head, killing him.

It’s so, so hard to get shot if you’re white, and there’s no better proof than the American sovereign citizen movement, a cadre of moody caucasian fellows, armed to the teeth against an overreaching federal government. And they’re preparing for another showdown.

Last Saturday, a state park hosted the Southern Michigan Militia Field Day, complete with guns, tactical training, and a barbecue. In the shadow of the recent Hutaree militia arrests, this crowd was anxious to separate itself from "homegrown terrorists."

A militant, Midwestern Christian group called the "Hutaree" was reportedly the target of government raids this weekend. Their leader, Raddock "RD" Merzonick, was arrested, and now, their web site is being attacked by internet trolls armed with gay porn.

It appears that members of the right-wing Hutaree Militia were arrested in raids in Michigan last night. Fox News reports that the seven in custody were selling pipe bombs. The FBI refused to comment.
