As you've undoubtedly heard by now, a "mystery missile" was launched off of California's coast on Sunday night. Or was it just an airplane? At any rate, tonight, Jon Stewart handily mocked the media for their exaggerated reactions. Video inside.

British special forces are parachuting into Taliban strongholds in Afghanistan with dogs strapped to them, then using the dogs—with cameras attached to their heads—to scout the surrounding area. Yes, you heard that right: Parachuting dogs.

A federal appeals court will allow the military to continue expelling gay and lesbian soldiers under "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," siding with the government over the judge who ruled against the policy. So, for now, don't ask, or tell.

According to the leaked results of a Department of Defense survey, a majority of service members wouldn't oppose serving or living alongside gays and lesbians. "Some" (not a majority) said they'd quit if "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" were repealed.

Massachusetts congressional candidate Sean Bielat, after running an ad showing his openly gay opponent, Rep. Barney Frank, doing gay dance moves, has now shared his opinion on gays serving in the military: Short people can't serve, so why should gays?

To handle unredacted names in Wikileaks' Afghan War document release in July, the Pentagon set up a 120-member Information Review Task Force. Now they're worried about Iraqi informants in the big upcoming leak: "Maybe no one's name will be released."

Today—just one day after the Pentagon admitted it was accepting openly gay applicants—an appeals court ruled the Pentagon can actually temporarily reinstate DADT. This is all very confusing. Maybe we should just stop all wars?

The Defense Department acknowledged today that it's allowing openly gay people to join now, following a court decision—still under appeal—that struck down "Don't Ask Don't Tell." Openly straight people are still allowed to join, too.

The Justice Department has asked a federal judge to let it keep enforcing "Don't Ask Don't Tell" while it appeals the injunction.

After a federal judge yesterday ordered the military to stop enforcing Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Rep. Barney Frank called for the Obama administration to wait to appeal the ruling until after Congress can repeal the policy in a lame-duck session.

The federal judge who deemed "don't ask don't tell" unconstitutional ruled today that the military "immediately suspend and discontinue any investigation, discharge, [or] separation" of gay soldiers. See, it took just one judge to do what Obama couldn't.
