"Gullible" Not in Ad-Bloggers' Dictionaries

Pareene · 04/25/08 04:14PM

Ad agency Leo Burnett put this poster up in its offices this week, announcing a new company dress code. Even the creatives would have to wear collared shirts and cotton trousers! And the ladies! It's obviously a big ol' joke designed to help Leo Burnett seem "cool" and "with it" even though they are a huge and ancient company. But it freaked out all the ad bloggers! Ad Age's Adages blog points and laughs at those duped. Meanwhile, ad agency creatives are still allowed to not dress like assholes despite being assholes. [Adages]

Pepsi, the Dixie Chicks, and the Manson ranch

Gawker · 04/08/03 05:11PM

A Gawker spy writes, "[Country music band and anti-war critics] The Dixie Chicks recently wrapped on a commercial for Pepsi/Lipton Brisk. Unbeknownst to the Chicks and the client, the ad agency, Leo Burnett, rented out the former Manson Ranch in California for the shoot. Pepsi is currently debating if the commercial will ever air, and has hired a high-profile public relations firm to handle this if it leaks to the media." (No word on whether this song was playing in the background.) UPDATE from another reader: "It's the Spahn Movie Ranch. Named after it's geriatric owner (then), now dead. Then, there was the Barker Ranch after that. A gulch in Death Valley where they lived in an old school bus and jeeps and tents. There was never a Manson Ranch. The Manson 'family' were squatters at best."
