80 people are dead and at least 260 wounded from an explosion in Kabul, Afghanistan that detonated on Saturday in the midst of a peaceful demonstration by members of Hazara, a Shiite minority group, CNN reports.

A week after the Taliban announced its annual spring offensive, armed militants launched an assault, involving a suicide car bombing and a gun attack, against a government security agency in Kabul. At least 28 people have been killed and more than 320 wounded, NPR reports, the Taliban claimed responsibility.

The Taliban inaugurated 2016 with a suicide bombing in Kabul, killing two person and wounding 15, Agence France-Press reports. The bombing targeted Le Jardin, an Afghan-owned French restaurant popular with foreigners.

Afghanistan's top criminal investigator has found that the woman beaten to death last week for burning pages from a Quran was wrongly accused, The Associated Press reports. Thirteen people, including eight police officers, have been arrested in connection with her death.

Nine men believed to have been participants in a mob that dragged, beat, and killed a woman after she was accused of burning pages from the Quran have been arrested, The New York Times reports. The woman's parents said she had suffered from mental illness for most of her life.
