The Audacity of Joke
The Cajun Boy · 05/11/09 12:06AMFresh from their latest round of conniptions and hissy-fits over Obama saying that "empathy" would be an ideal characteristic for his upcoming nomination to the Supreme Court, because Jesus hates empathy you see, conservatives are predictably aghast at Sykes' jokes and that Obama dared to enjoy them. Here's a sampling of commentary:
Even conservatives are tired of Fox hogging the debates
Paul Boutin · 09/26/08 01:40PMNormally if I saw Arianna Huffington, Craig Newmark and Markos Moulitsas coauthoring a statement, I'd click my Back button and Move On, as they say. But Instapundit editor Glenn Reynolds has joined the mostly leftospheric collection of bloggers who've dubbed themselves the Open Debate Coalition. They want two things, which I've helpfully edited down to 10 words each:1) Fox News, please let us post clips instead of threatening to sue. 2) Adopt a Digg-like voting system to let the audience choose the questions. The first demand seems as easy as the second is sure to be rickrolled. (Photo by The Fun Times Guide)
Blogfights: A 100-word history
Paul Boutin · 07/01/08 05:20PMNearly ten years before Violet Blue vs. Boing Boing, the Internet's early bloggers discovered their new medium's killer application: Personal spats. Radar Online blogger Choire Sicha, angling for his 14th return to us here at Gawker Media, recounts blogfeuding's past. Choire: tl; dr. Only one era bears recounting: the months after 9/11.
War coverage
Gawker · 03/23/03 11:12AMIt's possible, if not to avoid the war, at least to avoid the cable news networks, which are stuck in an infinite loop. Basra is always on the point of surrender, the pictures of the same grainy square of desert, and the commentators never know what they're talking about. There is an antidote.
· Command Post [minute-by-minute links to news as it breaks around the web, and summaries of the main cable news]
· Agonist [as above, though the guy takes time off to sleep]
· Instapundit [Glenn Reynolds is being out-posted, but he injects more attitude, and Instapundit is the place to go if you hate Chirac more than Saddam.]
· Reporters' log [raw posts from BBC journalists]
· BBC News [best online news site]
· MSNBC [best US cable news website]
· Where is Raed? [blogger in Baghdad]
9-11 reading
Gawker · 09/11/02 11:51AMI've put aside the New York Times, and spent most of the morning browsing Glenn Reynolds from this time last...
