The death toll in Louisiana has risen to 13, ABC News reports. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson will visit the state on Thursday to review the federal government’s response to what Governor John Bel Edwards called “unprecedented” flooding.

According to the Associated Press, officials in Louisiana now say that at least 13 people have died since historic flooding hit the state this weekend. On Tuesday, a White House spokesperson said that more than 70,000 residents have registered for federal disaster aid.

Obama declared a major disaster in West Virginia Saturday night following historic flash flooding in the state that has left at least 23 dead and some 32,000 without power, according to the West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management’s latest count.

A military vehicle in Fort Hood, Texas, overturned at a flooded crossing on Thursday, killing three soldiers and leaving another six missing. Three other soldiers were successfully rescued and are in stable condition, KXAN reports.

Flooding in the Midwest Tuesday shut down portions of two interstates and threatened hundreds of homes, the Associated Press reports. At least 18 people have been killed. South of St. Louis, the Mississippi river, swollen after days of torrential rain, is expected to crest at record levels later this week.

The death toll for a wave of storms and flooding hitting the central and southern U.S. is continuing to climb.

At least 16 people have been killed in flash flooding around the French Riviera, the Associated Press reports. Three people are still missing. “It’s not over,” President Francois Hollande said during a visit to a flooded retirement home in the town of Biot on Sunday.

At least 12 people are dead and 24 people missing after floodwaters swept through Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi, the New York Times reports. An unknown number of animals—including lions, wolves, bears, and at least one hippo—have escaped from a zoo and are roaming the city’s ruined streets.

At least two people were killed after flash floods ripped through Houston following an estimated 10 inches of rain last night.

Flooding during Bangladesh's yearly summer monsoon season has forced 500,000 residents into homelessness and caused scores more to lose their crops. Streets throughout the northern area of the country have reportedly been swept away.

A water main broke on Houston Street this morning, flooding the Manhattan thoroughfare near Katz's Deli. Firefighters have responded to the scene and are working to pump water from the famous deli's basement. Adjust your commute accordingly.

Northern Colorado has little time to recover from a series of flash floods that has devastated the Boulder area and left hundreds of people unaccounted for, as more rain is forecast for Saturday. Sunday, forecasters believe, will bring even stronger rains.

The worst of Hurricane Sandy isn't supposed to hit the New York City region until after 4 p.m. today, but signs of flooding have already begun in some parts of the city. (And New Jersey.)

That or the MTA decided to turn the 1 train into a Six Flags-esque log flume ride. Either way, expect to get wet, experience "technical difficulties," and lose your mind while attempting to drown-out the screaming kids in the front row.

Flash flood warnings have been issued until 5:30pm today for Brooklyn and Queens amid severe thunderstorms. And they weren't kidding! Earlier this week, at least 100 animals died at a Johnson City, N.Y. Petco store due to flooding caused by Tropical Storm Lee so severe that it turned the pet store's parking lot into a pond. Evidence strongly suggests that the deaths could have been prevented.

One of two Nebraska nuclear power stations located near the Missouri River is submerged in flood waters, Reuters reports. A hole tore in a 2000-foot, inflatable barrier placed around the facility, allowing over two feet of water to pour into containment buildings and electrical transformers.

Something not good has gone down at Cooper Nuclear Station, an electrical power plant near the Missouri River in southeast Nebraska. The region has been flooding steadily for weeks, and with river levels rising, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers released water from two dams on Saturday in anticipation of more heavy rains this week.
