Facebook Starts Targeting Ads in Real-Time

Adrian Chen · 03/24/11 10:27AM

Facebook already uses pretty much everything you put on your profile to direct ads at you. But they aren't targeted to your words at the very second you type them onto the Internet. But that could change with a new real-time ad targeting system, which Facebook is currently testing on about 1 percent of its users.

This pop starlet's record label said she better get her sales up, or they'll release naked pictures from her younger days. This actor puke all over the set of the photo shoot. No one took pictures of that.

The 'Ready to Die' Baby is Ready to Talk

Seth Abramovitch · 03/24/11 03:55AM

All right, so maybe you aren't Rebecca Lanier old. You're still old. How old? Let's put it this way: You know that baby with the afro on the cover of The Notorious B.I.G.'s Ready to Die? His name is Keithroy Yearwood, and he's now 18. In the video, Yearwood and his folks recount how he was plucked from child model obscurity, only to be marked for greatness as the poopie-diapered symbol of a hip-hop generation. As cover-baby reunions go, it's pretty satisfying—even if it lacks the bold, full-frontal diaperlessness of Nevermind's Spencer Elden, now a 20-something street artist living in LA. Seth Abramovitch · 03/24/11 03:03AM

I realize we have a lot on our worrying plates, between all the tsunamis and Qaddaffis dominating the news these days—but if I could just momentarily direct your hopelessness in the direction of the adorable, oil-soaked rockhopper penguins above, I'd be much obliged. These faces are the innocent victims of yet another disaster that unfolded Tuesday on Nightingale Island, part of a South Atlantic archipelago located halfway between Argentina and South Africa.

Max Read · 03/23/11 11:01PM

Thousands of people in Brooklyn will tell you how great Brooklyn used to be. I never took those people seriously. Until I heard how once, pot plants "as tall as Christmas trees," grew in "anonymous vacant lots" in Brooklyn.

He's now pleaded guilty to three counts of murder and has been sentenced to 24 years in jail; in exchange, essentially, for not getting a life sentence, he'll testify against the four other soldiers also accused of murdering Afghan civilians "for sport." Libyan State TV Appears to Have a Pro-Qaddafi Bias

Jim Newell · 03/23/11 05:11PM

No channels in the United States are as riveting as Libyan state television, based on this one short clip we've watched and nothing else. Check out this guy, this anchor. Does he "like" Qaddafi? We'd guess yes, since he pulls out an AK-47 in the middle of his broadcast and says, "In the name of Almighty God, I pledge to you, my Dear Leader, that I will sacrifice my last breath, my last bullet, my last drop of blood, last baby and child for you." Don't forget your wife!

This Awful Poetry Video Is Not a Spoof

Brian Moylan · 03/23/11 03:52PM

Poet Craig Moreau has made one of the most hilarious YouTube videos I've seen in awhile. It seems like a parody of a self-important gay party boy poet who has written a book of poems called Chelsea Boy. But it's not a joke at all.
