cityfile · 02/19/09 12:21PMWhile Stylista failed to thrill viewers or indeed expose anything about real life at Elle—we'll see if Marie Claire's soon-to-debut effort in the same vein, Running in Heels, does any better—the show did make a minor celebrity out of the mag's fashion news director, pretend Ice Queen Anne Slowey. Anne, along with her new puppy, Edie (after Sedgwick, like Leigh Lezark's dachshund, or Beale?), shares her fashion week opinions with Elle.com, the most important one being the answer to that perennial dilemma: Should one wear a designer to his/her own show? "As a rule, no. Certainly, never a full look. Maybe a piece if it's not too obvious. But never change from one show to the next. That looks old-school and ridiculous, and you run the risk of looking like you work there." Advice to take to heart unless, of course, you actually want to give the impression that you work for a designer.
Christian Siriano Wants You to Take Him Seriously
cityfile · 02/19/09 10:23AMProject Runway season 4 winner Christian Siriano is showing for the first time in the tents today and no doubt hoping that, unlike last season, the likes of Saks and Bloomingdales pick up his fledgling line. But despite the fact that helming a fashion label at the tender age of 23 would hardly have been his fate without the help of reality TV, Siriano, normally so full of sass, is now regretful about his decision to compete in the show: "It definitely gave me a platform, but for other young designers I would say, it's not the best way to go if you want to be a real, serious designer." Sounds like someone is struggling to reconcile designing and promoting for Payless with his glamorous boyhood dreams!

cityfile · 02/16/09 04:01PMMichelle Obama hasn't turned up at Fashion Week, but two of her nearest and dearest surfaced at shows today. White House social secretary Desiree Rogers appeared at Carolina Herrera's presentation (where she sat next to Anna Wintour), and later made her way to Donna Karan and Thakoon's shows. Michelle Obama's secretive stylist, Ikram Goldman, also put in appearances today, turning up at the Maria Cornejo show before heading off to Thakoon. So you can rest assured that even though Michelle isn't here to pick out her favorites in person, her shopping is getting done nonetheless. [WWD, NYP, WSJ]
