While we've all been wringing our hands while trapped over here on this "side of the pond" (Atlantic Ocean) worrying about if and when the second dip of the Double Dip Recession With No Fucking Sprinkles™ would arrive, that clever old recession was slinking "across the pond" (Atlantic Ocean) to rear its ugly, stupid, money-sucking head in "Jolly" (not so jolly now I bet, ha) Olde Englande. From the NYT:

Help us out here, economists. Make yourselves useful. Is this what the second dip of a Double Dip Recession feels like? I mean, we do have that nauseating sinking feeling. But we've had that for a few years now.

How about that economy, amirite? Yesterday it's crashing to hell, and then today there's a decent jobs report and rather than crashing some more, the markets simply "gyrated," which is considered preferable.

You know what? I'm just not done with today's insanely irritating Thomas Friedman op-ed in the Times. (Ugh, TimesSelect, come back! Untear down this paywall!) Friedman's beef with the do-gooding college children of our age is that they're just all Facebookey. "But Generation Q may be too quiet, too online, for its own good, and for the country's own good." Really? Online equals... quiet? Dude. "Generation Quiet" is one bad little coinage that is so not going to stick around—not in a world where the youngs are so loudly overdisclosing on Facebook walls and opinionating on the blogs. I thought the olds hated the internet exactly because it was so loud?
