According to Gibson's lawyer Blair Berk, Gibson sought a plea deal with "the best interests of his young daughter... in mind"; in a remarkable stroke of luck, the best interests of young Lucia Gibson coincide with those of her father's upcoming movie, The Beaver, which sees a wide release in May.
