Mel Gibson Pleads Guilty to Abuse

Mel Gibson, the violent anti-Semitic actor whose terrifying phone threats thrilled a nation last summer, has pleaded guilty to a charge of misdemeanor battery against his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva and will likely avoid jail. According to Gibson's lawyer Blair Berk, Gibson sought a plea deal with "the best interests of his young daughter... in mind"; in a remarkable stroke of luck, the best interests of young Lucia Gibson coincide with those of her father's upcoming movie, The Beaver, which sees a wide release in May.
