New York nightlife baron David Rabin is the owner of a handful of bars, clubs, and restaurants including Union Bar, Double Seven, Los Dados, and the now-shuttered Lotus. He's also the president of the New York Nightlife Association.

Jimmy Rodriguez, owner of Jimmy's Downtown (and Uptown) is feuding with Lotus owner David Rabin. Rodriguez charges that Lotus' exclusivity is responsible for it's financial losses and is technically illegal: "When you have a liquor license, you can�t choose who comes inside. The law says if you have a liquor license, you can�t discriminate. Is a person who wears a suit different than someone who wears a pair of jeans? In a day and age when some businesses are down 40 percent, we have some who are practicing this discrimination."

Lotus owner (and President of the New York Night Life Association) David Rabin responds to the New York Press, who ranked him #25 on their "Most Loathsome New Yorkers" list: "I work too fucking hard for some half-baked 'journalists,' who not only can't outdance me, they can neither out-think nor out-write me, to take potshots at me." Rabin also points out that, for the record, he does not have a flat ass.

Beauty Bar and Barmacy owner Paul Devitt is opening a new club in Chelsea called Aquarium on West 29th between 10th and 11th. The club will contain massive aquariums that will contain both sea-life and humans. Lotus owner David Rabin points out that the original Limelight in Atlanta had a shark tank underneath the see-through dance floor.

Manhattan developer Steven Touhey has proposed to build a 32-story luxury building in the middle of the meatpacking district. Lotus owner, David Rabin, in response, whines about gentrification, complaining that there would be no place left in Manhattan "to go out." You know, besides the rest of Manhattan.

Centro-Fly co-owner, David Baxley, on the antiquated cabaret law that prevents unlicensed bars and clubs from allowing patrons to dance:
"The cabaret law itself is absurd. It's totalitarian. Two years ago the only places it was illegal to dance were Manhattan and Afghanistan. And now you can dance in Afghanistan,"
Lotus is zoned for the cabaret laws and most of its competitors aren't. Lotus owner, David Rabin, in keeping with the Unfair-Rules-Are-Okay-As-Long-As-They-Benefit-Me code of ethics so popular with a number of minor third-world dictators, the occasional former national security advisor, and a not-insignificant number of Fortune 50 CEOs, supports them.
Not that it matters. Lotus isn't profitable and you can smell the desperation (and the b-list social climbers) for miles. It's O-Ver.
