Jon Stewart Can't Believe the Republicans' Crazy Predictions for Obama's Second Term

Matt Toder · 02/22/12 11:31PM

Back in 2008, President Obama's political opponents made a lot of predictions about what an Obama presidency would do to America. The reality didn't quite live up to their socialist, fundamental Islamist hype. What are they doing in now that it is 2012 and Obama is seeking a second term? The exact same thing: making ridiculous predictions about what will come in the next four years.

Jon Stewart Dissects Darrell Issa's 'Punanny State'

Matt Toder · 02/21/12 12:04AM

Jon Stewart opened tonight's Daily Show by taking a look at the ridiculous contraception hearings that Darrell Issa convened last week. The quoting from Stalin, the "rape of the soul," it's all perfect grist for Jon's mill. Not to mention the fact that no women were on hand.

Matt Toder · 02/16/12 11:31PM

On tonight's Daily Show, Jon Stewart took a look at the latest challenges facing Republican candidates Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum. Romney has a Michigan problem considering that he once endorsed letting Detroit fail completely and now is running ads with blatant non-truths in them. Santorum has his own problems, most notably getting sprayed with a Santorum-like substance in ads he produced. He never will learn, will he?

Jon Stewart Examines Congress' Insider Trading Problem

Matt Toder · 02/15/12 11:44PM

On tonight's Daily Show, Jon Stewart examined the little problem that Congress has with indulging in insider trading. You know how it goes, you learn some confidential information in a Senate hearing or something and then use that knowledge for your personal financial gain. Hey, it happens all the time. The only problem is that when the regular non-Congress types try do that it is called insider trading and people go to jail. Oh well.

Jon Stewart Examines A Fox News Analyst's Claim That Female Soldiers Are Getting Raped Too Much

Matt Toder · 02/14/12 11:43PM

On tonight's Daily Show, Jon Stewart took a look at the arguments various right wing types are floating against the idea that women should be serving at the front lines of our military. Rick Santorum is worried that female soldiers endanger missions as the male soldiers would have trouble seeing them in peril. Liz Trotta, a Fox News psycho, doesn't want women around because they're getting raped too much, which is obviously their fault. She actually said that.

Jon Stewart Catches Up On Last Week's Controversy Over Contraception Insurance

Matt Toder · 02/13/12 11:39PM

In his first Daily Show after a week off, Jon Stewart had a lot to catch up on. He started with the controversy over birth control insurance and the extreme reaction that the right has had. Stewart took a look at the hypocrisy espoused by the right, and highlighted the particularly terrible reaction of Rick Santorum who, obviously, can't abide all of this. It takes too much time away from him imposing God's will on all of us.

Donald Trump's Endorsement of Mitt Romney Leads to Some Class Warfare on the Set of the Daily Show

Matt Toder · 02/02/12 11:28PM

On tonight's Daily Show, Donald Trump's endorsement of Mitt Romney lead to a discussion about class warfare between Jon Stewart and correspondent John Hodgman. More accurately, it is the case that Hodgman has no stomach for Stewart's brand of liberal whining about the rich having it all and some such. It's a spirited debate, one that touches the very essence of what kind of place this nation truly is. Or maybe it's filled with vague platitudes about "haves" and "soon to haves." Either way.

Jon Stewart Checks In on Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich in the Wake of the Florida Primary

Matt Toder · 02/01/12 11:41PM

On tonight's Daily Show, Jon Stewart checked in with Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich after the Florida primary wherein Mitt Romney won big. Figuring that he's got his party's nomination sewn up, Romney broke out his general election platform, which featured a shot at teachers. Undeterred by the results of the Florida primary, Gingrich started talking about what he will do on the first day of his presidency. It all made for some great grist for Jon Stewart's mill.

Jon Stewart Dissects Mitt Romney's Private Sector Credentials

Matt Toder · 01/31/12 11:37PM

On tonight's Daily Show, Jon Stewart examined part Mitt Romney's pitch to Republican voters, that his time as CEO of Bain Capitol makes him uniquely qualified to create jobs in the private sector as President. But, as Stewart showed tonight, that claim is mostly bunk as Bain engaged in some pretty sketchy business practices that Romney doesn't think the United States should engage in anyway. Of course, none of that mattered much to the voters in Florida.

Jon Stewart Breaks Down Mitt and Newt's Latest Round of Insults

Matt Toder · 01/30/12 11:31PM

Over the last week, as we approach tomorrow's contest in Florida, things have gotten pretty heated between Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich. They're fighting for the lead and lashing out at each other, while both are claiming that the other is sad and misguided. On tonight's Daily Show, Jon Stewart took a look at some of the highlights of their fight, with appropriate Mortal Kombat interstitials.

Jon Stewart: Newt Gingrich Is A Pollutant

Matt Toder · 01/19/12 11:30PM

The main focus of tonight's Daily Show was the ABC News bombshell that Newt Gingrich asked his second wife for an open marriage before eventually divorcing her, while she was sick to boot. It's not really all that surprising, Newt has always been on the side of the free market and less regulation. If only it didn't completely contradict his years of moralizing about traditional American values, particularly the sanctity of marriage.

Jon Stewart Has Some Harsh Words For SOPA And Its Sponsors

Matt Toder · 01/18/12 11:45PM

On tonight's Daily Show, Jon Stewart attempted to wrap his head around SOPA and its draconian take on internet piracy. He saved his harshest criticisms for its sponsors in Congress and their inability to truly understand (a) the internet and (b) what their bill will actually do. And their flippant use of the word "nerd" isn't helping either.

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert Avoid Coordinating on Tonight's Daily Show

Matt Toder · 01/18/12 12:01AM

By now we all know that Jon Stewart has taken over Stephen Colbert's Super PAC and has started running some attack ads. But what should he do next? And how can he figure that out without coordinating with Colbert? On tonight's Daily Show, Stewart and Colbert made a clever mockery of the Super PAC rules and didn't coordinate the entire time.

Jon Stewart Spends Some of Stephen Colbert's PAC Money, with Help from Mario Batali

Matt Toder · 01/16/12 11:29PM

Last week, Jon Stewart took over Stephen Colbert's Super PAC and now he has to find ways to spend all that money. But, since they can't coordinate with each other, Colbert must give Stewart coded messages while being interviewed on television, exactly like Newt Gingrich must do. Apparently the answer was having Mario Batali feed him an egg frittata.

Jon Stewart Chronicles Newt Gingrich's Fall From The Top Of The Polls

Matt Toder · 01/12/12 11:32PM

On tonight's Daily Show, Jon Stewart took a look at Newt Gingrich's last month, wherein he went from leading the field to coming in a distant fourth at the New Hampshire primary. Part of Gingrich's decline has had to do with some choice quotes about African-Americans being on welfare but Gingrich doesn't see it that way. In his mind, he's being magnanimous and generous which is actually pretty predictable.

Jon Stewart Recaps The New Hampshire Primary

Matt Toder · 01/11/12 11:43PM

On tonight's Daily Show, Jon Stewart gave us his thoughts on the results of the New Hampshire primary. He took a swipe at Mitt Romney's victory speech and the results spin by MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell. And Stewart had time for a couple of shots at Jon Huntsman and the victory speech that accompanied his third place finish. Get the jokes in now, Jon, who knows how much longer you'll have Huntsman to kick around.

Jon Stewart Takes a Break From the Republican Primary to Check In on Iran

Matt Toder · 01/10/12 11:44PM

There's been so much hoopla surrounding the Republican primaries, what with debates and caucuses and attack ads and Super PACs, that it's easy to forget there's a great big world out there. On tonight's Daily Show, Jon Stewart checked in on Iran and the latest news on their uranium enrichment program. They claim it is for research purposes, the United States doesn't agree, and then there's that all that nasty business about blockading the Straight of Hormuz and sentencing Iranian-Americans to death for spying. It's like living in a sweeping epic that probably won't have a Hollywood ending.

Jon Stewart Can't Understand Why the GOP Hates Romney When He Is Their Ideal

Matt Toder · 01/09/12 11:44PM

On tonight's Daily Show, Jon Stewart took a look at some of the GOP infighting and realized there's only two things that the field can agree on: that class warfare is bad and that Mitt Romney is too rich. The funny part is that Mitt symbolizes all the free market, no regulations, breaks for job creators stuff that they all spout continually. Did I say "funny?" I actually meant "typical of a group of people willing to say and do anything to get what they want."

Jon Stewart Tackles the Latest Republican Hypocrisy and Fear Mongering

Matt Toder · 01/05/12 11:13PM

Tonight's Daily Show featured content tailor made for Jon Stewart to tee off on: Republican claims of the President's abuse of his executive power over something extremely petty and the manipulation of Senate procedures to help make their case. All they needed to do was hold a 30 second session to render Obama's recess appointment moot. It's all more fuel for what we are sure to hear from Obama in the upcoming general election, that it is all Congress' fault.
