Cosmetic Surgeons Go Green

cityfile · 12/02/09 12:04PM

Now you can enlarge your breasts and not waste any precious silicone or saline in the process. Gaining new-found popularity among plastic surgeons are boob augmentations that involve liposuctioning fat from one's thighs or buttocks and then injecting it into breasts. You really can save the earth and make the world more aesthetically pleasing at the same time! [NYT]

cityfile · 12/02/09 11:48AM

Did scandal-plagued publicist/alleged voicemail hacker Ali Wise just lose a job she only started a couple of weeks ago? [Update: No, she didn't; see below.] A tipster tells us that in recent weeks Wise has been doing unofficial PR for good friend Stacey Bendet's clothing line, Alice + Olivia.

Desperation Sets In at Forbes

cityfile · 12/02/09 11:12AM

Laying off as many as one in four Forbes writers and editors a few weeks ago hasn't been enough to stanch the flow of red ink, it seems. The magazine is now reportedly close to selling its historic headquarters on lower Fifth Avenue for $55 million, which is nearly a third of what it was hoping to get for the building two years ago. [NYP]
Update: Forbes is now denying the report in today's Post.

Make No Mistake: Dan Loeb's Time Is Important

cityfile · 12/02/09 10:20AM

Back in September, we reported that Dan Loeb had been sued by the moving company that helped the hedge fund tycoon and his wife settle into their $45 million apartment at 15 Central Park West. The Observer has a follow-up to the story and reports the suit has been settled. The prickly financier agreed to pay $82,500 to make the case go away—a bit less than the $98,699 the moving company was demanding—mostly because Loeb couldn't stand the idea of wasting any more of his precious time sitting in court. Another Giuliani Suffers a Loss

cityfile · 12/02/09 10:09AM

When it comes to golf, Andrew Giuliani is no Tiger Woods, clearly. The son of the former mayor, who has said he plans to pursue a career as a professional golfer (and who appears to have inherited his dad's fashion sense), was bounced out of a competition sponsored by the Golf Channel yesterday. At least his father should be able to give him some wise counsel on how to deal with the agony of defeat, right? [NYP]

Hedge Funder Lists at 1010 Fifth

cityfile · 12/02/09 09:02AM

• Now that they've moved into their renovated apartment at 1040 Fifth, hedge funder Glenn Dubin and his wife, Dr. Eva Andersson-Dubin, are looking to unload their former co-op just down the street. The couple's 12-room, 6,000-square-foot duplex at 1010 Fifth Avenue is now listed with Corcoran broker Deborah Grubman for $18.5 million. [NYO, Corcoran]
• New York's tiniest townhouse is off the market. A buyer has signed a contract to purchase the 900-square-foot home at 75 1/2 Bedford Street, which went on the market for $2.75 million in August and which was most recently listed for $2.499 million. [Curbed, Corcoran]

Pathological Liars Make Great Reality TV Contestants, Don't They?

cityfile · 12/02/09 08:32AM

Despite their protestations on Today that they really were invited to last week's state dinner, Tareq and Michaele Salahi weren't actually invited, as you probably suspected. A series of emails obtained by the AP indicate that up until 6:30pm last Tuesday evening, the couple was still trying to convince a Pentagon official to work his magic and get them in. But it also doesn't seem like honesty is one of the couple's strong suits. The Washington Post reports today that the Salahi's "signature social event," the Land Rover America's Polo Cup, isn't really sponsored by Land Rover (or any of the other companies the couple listed), and benefits a charity that is pretty much non-existent. But all that will make for fabulous TV, won't it? [AP, WP]

Tiger's Admission; Bill Clinton's Seal of Approval

cityfile · 12/02/09 07:40AM

• Tiger Woods released a statement this morning: "I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. [TMZ]
• One thing that may have pushed Tiger to finally issue the apology: While Rachel Uchitel didn't want to cop to hooking up with Woods, two other women turned up to take her place yesterday. A 24-year-old waitress named Jaimee Grubbs appeared with tawdry text messages from Woods to back up her story. (Sample: "I will wear you out!") And a Vegas club manager came out to say she's been having an affair with him "for some time." [Us, NYP, NYDN]
• Tiger won't face criminal charges for crashing his SUV outside his Florida home. He's getting a traffic ticket and may pay a $164 fine. [Us]
• Bill Clinton is pumped his daughter Chelsea is marrying investment banker Marc Mezvinsky because, Bill says, Marc is a "great human being." Not only that, but when Hillary is traveling, Chelsea and Marc take pity on poor old Bill and take him to dinner and the movies. [People]
• Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich just bought a $90 million estate in St. Barts and now everyone is expecting him to throw the "It" Christmas party of the year. No word on whether the Salahis were invited. Not that the lack of an invite will stop them from attending anyway, of course. [P6]

Tiger Woods: Big in China, Clearly

cityfile · 12/01/09 05:08PM

There were no cameras present when Tiger Woods rammed his car into a tree, or when he may or may not have been pummeled by his wife. Or even when he met up with Rachel Uchitel. (Or didn't.) None of that prevented a Chinese TV network from assembling an animated reenactment of the events, though. Enjoy. [YouTube via NYP]

J. Lo Does Her Homework

cityfile · 12/01/09 05:03PM

If you tuned into the American Music Awards the week before last, you're probably aware that not only did Jennifer Lopez fall on her well-insured backside during her performance, her latest single is all about Louboutin shoes. (It's called "Louboutins," surprisingly.) So what does the French designer make of the song? He's totally thrilled and totally flattered by it, of course. And he's extra pleased since Lopez called him in advance to make sure she was pronouncing his name correctly: "In America the public pronounces my name in like a million different ways. So Jennifer called me, and she was like, 'Listen, I want to make sure that I get it right.' And she did... from the very first time!" [FWD]

• Job cuts hit Gannett today; USA Today is reducing its staff by 5 percent. [AP]
• So much for Lou Dobbs moving over to CNBC. The cable network now says it has no plans to hire the ex-CNN anchor/possible political candidate. [NYT]
• Will Bravo get into trouble if it goes ahead and casts White House state dinner crashers Tareq and Michaele Salahi on The Real Housewives of DC? Did the Today land an interview with the couple because of their pending deal with sister network Bravo? So many questions, so few answers. [NYDN, Gawker]

Predators Become Prey

cityfile · 12/01/09 12:36PM

Meeting that special someone on the World Wide Web just got .00001% less skeevy! Attorney General Andrew Cuomo reports that as part of a new state law enacted last year, some 3,500 sex offenders have been booted off of Facebook and MySpace, including 659 people who live in New York City. [NBC]

Rachel Uchitel Has Company

cityfile · 12/01/09 12:11PM

Tiger Woods might want to hide his golf clubs: Us Weekly reports another woman had an affair with the golfer. Jaimee Grubbs, a 24-year-old cocktail waitress from LA— and one-time reality show contestant, naturally—tells the tabloid she had a 31-month fling with Woods (during which time they had "20 sexual encounters"), and she has the voicemails and text messages to prove it. [Us, NYDN]

Ivanka to the Rescue

cityfile · 12/01/09 11:35AM

Ivanka Trump recently had a fairy tale wedding. Now she'll help you have one, too! Ivanka's jewelry company has teamed up with her dad's chain of hotels to offer "The Quintessential New York Proposal." And it's quite a package. Purchase a ring from Ivanka's "Bridal Bar" ("prices starting at $800"!) and you'll receive a complimentary one-night stay at the Trump International Hotel & Tower or, if you prefer, Trump Soho, the as-yet unfinished monstrosity that the Trumps have erected in Soho. But that's not all there is to it:

Dobbs To CNBC?

cityfile · 12/01/09 11:05AM

Is Lou Dobbs giving up on his dream of one day becoming a U.S. Senator or President of the United States? Is his effort to convince people that he really loves the people of Mexico failing him? Or is he just looking for a platform to spout nonsense as he gears up for a campaign? None of that is clear at the moment, but the New York Times reports that Dobbs is in talks to join CNBC, either as host of a primetime program or a commentator for the business network. [NYT]
