The Dark Side of Chuck Schumer

cityfile · 12/17/09 08:30AM

Remember how Chuck Schumer called a flight attendant a "bitch" last weekend and was forced to issue an apology yesterday? Well, it turns out Schumer has a history of acting aggressively on planes. Has Schumer ever shoved you out of the way while exiting an aircraft? Has he ever demanded that you switch seats with him, just so he didn't have to sit in the middle? If so, contact the Post at once! [NYP]

Kate Hudson Mourns; Anne Hathaway Unharmed

cityfile · 12/17/09 08:00AM

• A-Rod dumpee Kate Hudson was "consoled" by fellow Rodriguez ex Madonna at the premiere of Nine on Tuesday night. As for A-Rod, he was spotted in Miami yesterday, where he supposedly made the moves on a blonde at a restaurant but came up short. There's hope for A-Rod and Kate yet, though. The two have reportedly been speaking on the phone this week, and Hudson is still hoping they can patch things up. [P6, NYDN]
• A car that Anne Hathaway was riding in struck a cyclist in LA yesterday. Thankfully, Anne emerged unscathed. But ever the good girl, she hopped out of the car to tend to the biker and was photographed looking concerned. [TMZ, People]
• Today in Tiger: Elin Nordegren has supposedly made up her mind that she's leaving him, and has been shopping for divorce attorneys before she plans to head to Sweden for Christmas; Woods' high school girlfriend is now blaming the whole mess on Tiger's father, who may have been a serial cheater; Jessica Simpson is denying reports she ever hooked up with the golfer; and as for Tiger himself, he's supposedly spent the past few days holed up at home where he spends his time eating cereal, watching cartoons, and feeling depressed.

More Trouble for Stevie

That salacious lawsuit filed against SAC Capital by a former trader at the mega-hedge fund was just the tip of the iceberg. Steve A. Cohen, SAC's super-secretive founder, now has an even more embarrassing legal mess on his hands. Cohen's first wife, Patricia, whom he divorced in 1988, has filed a $300 million lawsuit against the billionaire, alleging he engaged in insider trading in the 1980s and later concealed millions of dollars of assets from her by setting up a racketeering scheme with his brother. Madonna Sacrifices, Lives to Tell

cityfile · 12/16/09 03:55PM

You have to give Madonna an enormous amount of credit for trying to do something she likely hasn't attempted since the early '80s. As part of her new ad campaign for Dolce & Gabbana, Madge can be seen washing dishes. In a sink. Wth her own two hands. That look of confusion on her face isn't accidental! [NBC]

Andy Madoff to the Rescue

cityfile · 12/16/09 03:28PM

It looks like Andy Madoff may have figured out his next career move. Last week, the Journal reported that Bernie Madoff's youngest son was planning to get into "disaster recovery." Now word has it Andy and his girlfriend Catherine Hooper are behind a disaster management company called Black Umbrella, which "builds practical, efficient disaster plans for individuals, couples and families." Just so you're aware, the types of disasters Black Umbrella claims to be equipped to handle are along the lines of Hurricane Katrina and 9/11. The disaster of waking up to find that someone you'd always trusted stole your life savings? You'll have to look elsewhere for help on that one. [Dealbreaker]

Schumer Fesses Up

cityfile · 12/16/09 01:48PM

Sen. Chuck Schumer is really, really sorry he called a US Airways flight attendant a "bitch" yesterday after she ordered him to turn off his cellphone before takeoff: "The senator made an off-the-cuff comment under his breath after the flight attendant walked away. He shouldn't have made it, he regrets it and he has apologized for it." [Fox5]

Steve Schwarzman Has a New Enemy

cityfile · 12/16/09 01:33PM

Last May, billionaire financier Steve Schwarzman made a $100 million donation to the New York Library. The gift, which followed more than a year of blistering press coverage (remember: never let a Journal reporter into your home and allow him/her to interview the household help!) wasn't without one big string: The library's Beaux-Arts main branch on 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue had to be renamed in the Blackstone Group co-founder's honor. It's been more than a year since then, but clearly some people have no intention of ever calling it the "Schwarzman Building."

Bernie Kerik Is a Changed Man

cityfile · 12/16/09 12:30PM

Former NYC police commissioner Bernie Kerik was released from jail on November 10 after spending nearly three weeks behind bars for violating the conditions of his bail. He's now under house arrest until he's sentenced on February 18 for the eight felony counts he pleaded guilty to last month, including tax fraud and perjury. But the stress of his three-week stint in the clink—which included a 10-day trip to the psych ward—has clearly taken its toll. He's practically unrecognizable in these new photos that Kerik posted to the Web earlier this week. Click on the photo above to see the very spooky transformation for yourself.

Lindsay Lohan, Destroyer of Careers

cityfile · 12/16/09 12:01PM

It's been two months since Emanuel Ungaro CEO Mounir Moufarrige made the worst decision of his career and hired a young woman by the name of Lindsay Lohan as the struggling fashion house's "artistic adviser." And now he's out the door. Moufarrige stepped down as CEO today, and while Lohan still has a job for the time being, that may very well change in the near future. Then again, that would only leave her more time to save the universe, so things should work out okay either way. [AP]

Tiger Woods has a supporter in former mayor (and fellow philanderer) Rudy Giuliani. At the premiere of Nine last night, a reporter asked the ex-mayor if he had a message to send the scandal-plagued golfer. "Hang in there," Giuliani replied before going on to describe Woods as a "very, very fine man." Okay, who's next? Care to share your thoughts, Mr. Spitzer? [Us]
