Naomi's Selflessness, The Return of Project Runway

cityfile · 07/14/08 12:57PM
  • Naomi Campbell is so misunderstood! The reason she continues to model? Not for the cash, but so she can help younger black models in an industry full of racism: "I worry for the girls after me for the opportunities they get—the way they get treated. And this is one of the reasons I still do what I do." Which clearly explains why she used to get Tyra Banks thrown off fashion shows. [Reuters]

Nude Supermodel Photos Sell For Lots Of Money

Hamilton Nolan · 04/11/08 09:20AM

The nude photo of French first lady Carla Bruni in her supermodel days sold at Christie's yesterday for $91,000, which was a bit better than its estimated price of $4,000. Some connoisseurs said the photo, by a lesser-known artist, wasn't that great, but maybe they missed the naked supermodel in it. Janet Jackson's iconic Rolling Stone cover shot brought only $10,000, but her boobs were covered up in that one, so it's understandable. The nude Gisele Bundchen picture brought $193,000 (estimate: $40,000). But the highest earner of the night was Helmut Newton's "Naked and Dressed" diptych, which sold for $241,000. We bring it to you for free, after the jump—NSFW, in an artsy way.

Horny London Reporter Recalls Failure To Bed Carla Bruni

Hamilton Nolan · 03/28/08 11:24AM

In the UK, entertainment reporters have a reputation for being tough and heartless when it comes to reporting on celebrities. But you have to give them this: They're also horny sleazebags. At least one is. His name is Rob Grainge, and he works for the London Paper. Now that French first lady Carla Bruni is getting so much press for her tour of England and other endeavors, the London Paper is trying to get some renewed interest in Grainge's interview with Bruni last year, when she was still a simple model and celebrity. And it is interesting, as a case study in a reporter being unable to control his metaphorical boner while interviewing a pretty woman.

The Nude First Lady (Of France)

Hamilton Nolan · 03/25/08 09:10AM

Carla Bruni, who recently married noted ladies' man Nikolas Sarkozy and became the First Lady of France, used to be a model. A naked model. A nude—and relatively tasteful—portrait of Bruni by the photographer Michel Comte is up for sale at Christie's in April. The press duly reported on the upcoming sale, but there's been an admirable sense of maturity about it across the board. By contrast, imagine the prospect of a nude Hillary Clinton portrait surfacing. Or not. The Bruni photo is expected to sell for about $4,000, but you can see it for free, after the jump. NSFW, although it is art.
