Caity: When I arrived at The Polo Bar, I was crying for unrelated reasons. But I was also excited to eat some of the same appetizers as my favorite celebrities, Martha Stewart and Rihanna.

Caity: Someone at a New Year's Eve party told me they felt we had hit a melancholy streak in our Best Restaurants lately.

Rich: I can't believe we woke up at 6:30 in the morning to experience a live commercial for FAO Schwarz.

Rich: Rock Center Cafe is the ideal spot to eat if you enjoy watching people, specifically children, fall down.

Caity: The twin reflecting pools at the National September 11th Memorial are just what memorials should be: vast, and arresting, and humbling, and sad. The museum is very expensive.

Rich: Everything leading up to our meal at STATE Grill and Bar at the Empire State Building was so pleasant. The woman who called to confirm our reservation pronounced my last name right with no prompting. The greeting I received upon entering the actual Empire State Building was a jolly “WELCOME TO THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING!” The hostess at STATE Grill and Bar (not to be confused with the Empire Bar and Grill in both Macedon and Webster, NY) had such kind eyes. It all made me feel like Annie.

Rich: We're kicking off Gawker's Christmas 2014 coverage with a trip to Macy's! Where shiny red balls hang from the ceiling gently suggesting that you should start buying because Christmas is just around the corner! It's Christmas time in the city, Caity, and all I want is some fried food.

Rich: I thought we were going to use the actual spa and I wondered what it would be like to be topless around you, Caity. Would it change things? Would it bring us closer or push us away from each other? I guess we'll have to figure that out on another day, when we go to water slides.

Rich: Hola, Caity! Como estas?

Rich: The Gorbals is located in a place on North Six called “Space Ninety 8.” Outside, Space Ninety 8 has a list of all of its constituent businesses: Urban Outfitters, the Gorbals, Roof Deck, Gallery 98, and the Market Space. But do not be fooled: This is a giant, three floor Urban Outfitters with, like, some other shit—including a high-end restaurant in which you can eat a whole pig’s head while listening to an in-store band perform surf-rock-revival revival jams.

Rich: Central Park's Loeb Boathouse is the kind of a place an old person would go to for a celebration demarking another milestone. In the process, that only reiterates the oldness.

Caity: The #1 reason I don't drink at restaurants is that there is never anything on the menu I particularly want to drink. But the Tommy Bahama drink menu was designed by an alcoholic child—nothing BUT drinks I want to drink. So I pitched a special all-drinking edition of "The Best Restaurant in New York" to our boss, Gawker Editor-in-Chief Max Read. Max described this as "a great bad idea." At this point, 6:30 on Tuesday, about 3 and a half hours out from our first drink, I would describe his description as "a good description i love everyonnnnnne i love u guys seriously."

Caity: The number one rule of the Bronx Zoo is that you must refer to all the animals you see there as being "from the block." Zebra from the block. Field mouse from the block.

Caity: I probably go to the Armani store seventy to eighty times a week, but this was my first trip to the restaurant.

Caity: What we learned yesterday is that no one should ever go to the Statue of Liberty under any circumstances.

Rich: I always recall Grand Central Terminal fondly because it's old and feels that way, like an elderly neighbor who's going to give you a butterscotch candy without any threat of poison or violation. But the reality of it is that it's a diarrhea explosion of people and sounds and diarrhea smells.
