There's a bit of an art world brouhaha unfolding right now, and, not surprisingly, Banksy is at its center. The controversy surrounds works created at the tail end of 2007, during a project called Bethlehem Santa's Ghetto in which the famed, anonymous graffiti artist left his mark upon several public surfaces in the West Bank.

Oh Banksy, that elusive sprite. The British street artist may have graduated to being nominated for Oscars and scribbling stuff in Simpsons episodes but all anyone really cares about is who he is. (Even though, we know in our hearts that he's probably some average-looking white guy—i.e. BORING.)

As he informed us just now in an email with the intriguing subject line: "not banksy! it's kuszyk." Who is this be-aviator shaded man of mystery? A Banksy collaborator who also paints some nice robots himself! See here:

Banksy's Strange NYC Show: Robot Food

Hamilton Nolan · 10/09/08 09:25AM

Semi-anonymous street art star and obsession of ours Banksy is opening his first official show in New York. Huzzah! And man I gotta tell you, it's weird. "Bizarre animatronic displays packed in a tiny downtown storefront" weird. All those rat murals he put up recently were just a teaser for his new, strange hobby. After the jump, check out two videos of his odd show in action—and, more tipster photos of a mysterious dude who could conceivably be Banksy!
