After almost 38 years as a 60 Minutes correspondent, Mike Wallace has decided to retire. TV Newser reports that Wallace will take the role of Correspondent Emeritus, and Wallace tells the Times:

Jesse · 01/10/06 03:52PM

• It's a shitty time to be a journalist. Or, at least, to be a real journalist, the kind of who writes shit the government cares about. [NYer]
60 Minutes suddenly likes sports stories. Which we're sure nothing to do with ratings, at all. [NYT]

Media Bubble: Please Go Away, Maureen

Jesse · 11/09/05 03:04PM

Are Men Necessary? is "a very odd, occasionally entertaining mish-mash of politics and sex, biology and Cosmopolitan-ology, gravity and wit, insight and carelessness." We don't care what it is; we'd just like to stop hearing about it. [NYO]
• And Maureen should go away for a while, too. [MW]

• Anderson Cooper does the self-deprecating shtick well, too. [Philadelphia Inquirer]

Didja Ever Notice the Internet?

Jesse · 11/03/05 04:39PM

We're not sure if we feel worse for professional curmudgeon Andy Rooney, who gamely sat through a Public Eye non-interrogation, or Public Eye, the new CBS News non-ombudsman non-blog, which had to suffer through Rooney's charmingly dismissive responses. This exchange was our favorite, simultaneously an apotheosis of Public Eye's bushy-tailed earnestness and of Ronney's lived-spotted cynicism:

Media Bubble: 525,600 Minutes of '60 Minutes,' Nearly
