Jeremy Meeks, the alleged gang member whose mugshot moistened a thousand panties when it hit Facebook yesterday, is also a Christian family man who walks the straight and narrow, according to his mom and sister.

Although Meeks has been charged with several felony counts of gun possession, his family says he's no longer in a gang, instead focusing on working and raising his son.

"Please help. My son was taken into custody on his way to work. He is a working man with a son. He is being stereotyped due to old tattoos," Katherine Angier wrote on a fundraiser page for Meeks's bail, which has been set at $900,000.

Meeks's sister told TMZ the reason he had a gun in his trunk was "because he used to be in a gang and needs to protect himself." She added that he's been a practicing Christian for the past 7 years.

In a local news interview from jail, Meeks casually mentioned his wife. TMZ reports they've been married 4 years and have a 3-year-old son together.

Meeks previously served a 9-year sentence for grand theft, and acquired a teardrop tattoo that he says signifies some bad decisions in his past.
