A first-year NYPD police officer shot and killed an allegedly armed 14-year-old boy Sunday morning in the Bronx. According to police, 14-year-old Shaaliver Douse was killed after he pointed his handgun at the officer and his partner.

Two police officers, both of whom graduated from the police academy in January, were on foot patrol in the Melrose section of the Bronx on Sunday when they heard gunfire at 3 a.m. The officers responded and reportedly found Douse shooting his 9 mm pistol at a man fleeing the scene.

When the officers identified themselves and ordered Douse to put down his weapon, the teenager reportedly turned and pointed his gun at them. At that point, one officer fired a single shot, striking Douse in the jaw. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

This wasn't Douse's first run-in with police. In May, the 14-year-old was charged with attempted murder and assault after allegedly shooting a 15-year-old neighbor. Those charges were later dropped, but the case is pending further investigation.

UPDATE: Here's a video that reportedly shows the 14-year-old firing his gun just before he was killed by police.
