Rivers Cuomo Annotates New Weezer Song on Genius With His Pain, Confusion, and Despair
Rivers Cuomo, of Pixies tribute-band Weezer—who, before experimenting with celibacy, once wrote an entire album about fucking a teenager—has taken to the website Genius to help promote his group’s new song, “Thank God for Girls.” The song, apparently, is mostly about being resentful towards Tinder.
In Cuomo’s annotation, we learn that he spelled “cannoli” incorrectly in the first draft of his lyrics; that “Holla Jesu Christe” is “Ebonics plus Latin for the win”; and “got the idea for the ‘Tennessee’ lyric after we shot the ‘Go Away’ video on Tennessee Ave. in West LA.” (The Tennessee lyric: “From Tennessee to LA.” Clever!)
Also, of the lyrics “She’s so big / She’s so strong / She’s so energetic in her sweaty overalls,” he wrote:
I’m so jealous of the hooker-uppers
Seems like it’s so easy to get laid now
all these good looking atheletic young guys
r getting so much free sex
it kills melaxitutes.
Such a bummer. Such a bummer.
To be evaluated by women. To be graded. To be rated.
Where do I stand? How big? How strong? How enduring? How energetic? How inventive?
So sad that it comes to this. So sad.It IS a competition and I AM being compared.
There’s more, including a photograph of what appears to be Cuomo’s microwave. Glad he’s doing so well!
