Retired Baseball Player Found Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide
Former professional baseball player Darryl Hamilton was found dead in a suburban Houston home yesterday, according to the Houston Chronicle. His girlfriend’s body was also found in the house, leading police to believe the crime may have a been a murder-suicide.
The bodies of Hamilton, 50, and Monica Jordan, 44, were found about 4:45 p.m. Sunday inside the house in the 11500 block of Island Breeze, according to the Pearland Police Department.
Police said officers were sent to the home on an emergency call about a disturbance. When they arrived, they found the body of Hamilton near the front entry way. The body of Jordan was found in another part of the home.
Hamilton had been shot several times, and Jordan died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according investigators who spoke with the Chronicle. The couple’s 13-month-old son was found unharmed in the home and turned over to Child Protective Services. Just hours before his death on Father’s Day, Hamilton reportedly posted a photograph of himself with his sons from a previous marriage to Facebook.
During his 13-year career, Hamilton hit .291 for five teams, including the 2000 New York Mets team that won the National League pennant. He’s worked as a broadcaster for the MLB Network since 2013.
