Reports: Cops Found Escaped Prisoner's Underwear Inside Remote Cabin
We may not know where escaped prisoners Richard Matt and David Sweat are at the moment, but it’s safe to assume at least one of them is going commando: cops say they found DNA and a discarded pair of prison undies this morning inside a remote cabin a few miles away from the prison.
Matt and Sweat have been on the run for more than two weeks. In that time, authorities have followed up on “credible” tips from Vermont to the Pennsylvania border—to no avail.
But now, according to the New York Times, the cops may have a real lead: forensic evidence reportedly indicates the two men were in the cabin within the last 48 hours.
State Police officers with high-powered rifles swarmed the woods of Mountain View as helicopters swirled overhead on Monday morning.
On Sunday night, in the pouring rain, officers went cabin to cabin, telling residents they were following up on a tip and asking if they had seen anything unusual.
A restaurant owner in nearby Owls Head told The Plattsburgh Press-Republican that a man who went to check on his cabin in Mountain View on Saturday found a jug of water and a jar of peanut butter on the table and saw a man run out the back door. He did not get a good look at the man, the restaurant owner said.
Authorities also reportedly found boots and bloody socks in the cabin. It’s not clear which prisoner left the underwear behind, but we can guess...
