CNN reports Donald Trump’s abrupt cancelation of several on-camera interviews this morning was not, as Trump claimed, due to technical difficulties, but rather because he didn’t like the way he looked on TV. Can’t argue much with that.

Trump was scheduled to do the news rounds this morning, beginning with a 6:40 a.m. appearance on the Fox affiliate in Detroit. But after the Fox interview, Trump declined to appear on-camera again, citing a technical malfunction. But three sources who were privy to the video feed tell CNN Trump’s concern was of a cosmetic nature.

Three network sources who insisted on anonymity said they thought the “technical issues” were an “excuse.”

“He didn’t like the shot,” said one of the people who heard Trump voice his objection on camera. “But he didn’t realize that his microphone was on for everyone to hear.”

When guests appear on several shows back-to-back, the camera shot is often shared between them, so the guest can be seen and heard in multiple control rooms.

The source said they heard Trump say, “I don’t like the way I look. Just tell them there’s technical issues.”

CBS, which reportedly has an informal rule against telephone interviews, ultimately declined to have Trump on at all. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Joe Scarborough was fine with it.
