American Who Prevented French Terror Attack Repeatedly Stabbed in California

CBS News is reporting that Spencer Stone, one of two American servicemen who prevented a terror attack on a French train in August, was repeatedly stabbed near Sacramento last night.
Along with two other Americans, Stone, a 23-year old Airman in the Air Force, tackled gunman Ayoub El-Khazzani during a Paris-To-Amsterdam train on August 21.
NBC News reports that Stone is currently in surgery and in stable condition (Initial reports indicated that he was in critical condition).
UPDATE 3:03 pm: Stone and a group of friends were drinking at or near a gay nightclub called Badlands, according to the Sacramento Bee and Towleroad. From the Bee:
“The assault does not appear to be a random act,” [Sacramento Deputy Poice Chief Ken] Bernard said. “It’s believed to be related to a nightclub incident.”
“There was a dispute that led to the altercation,” he added. “There was conversations and then it continued down the block to where the stabbing occurred.
Bernard also said the stabbing was “not related to what occurred in France months ago.”

UPDATE 11:25 am: The Air Force has confirmed the stabbing. ”He is alive and in stable condition at this time,” a spokesman said in a statement, according to NBC News. ”We do not have any information as to the events preceding the incident.”
According to ABC 10, police were called to midtown Sacramento at 12:45 am in response to fight during which one man was stabbed several times in his chest. Police told the station they don’t believe the attack was a hate crime, though there are no reports of an arrest yet.
