Renisha McBride's Killer Sentenced to 17 Years for Her Murder
Theodore Wafer, the man convicted of shooting and killing 19-year-old Renisha McBride on his Dearborn Heights, Michigan porch last November, was sentenced to 17 years for second-degree murder.
Wafer was convicted by a jury of those charges in early August. The conviction came as welcome relief to those who feared that ingrained racial prejudices would prevent the jury from seeing through Wafer's story that he was "afraid" of McBride even though she was unarmed. The sentence, which is reportedly much harsher than his attorneys were hoping for (CBS News quotes them as asking for six years), should further cement that light relief.
