Around 3 am on Sunday, police divers in the Harlem River, near 123rd Street, found a semiautomatic .40-caliber weapon that authorities believe Tyrone Howard used to shoot and kill NYPD Officer Randolph Holder earlier this week, the New York Times reports.

“It fits all the characteristics,” commander of Manhattan detectives Deputy Chief William Aubry told the Times.

The actual bullet that killed Holder has not yet been found, Aubry told Newsday, and investigators have expanded the search area for that piece of evidence.

Officer Holder was the fourth on-duty NYPD officer to be killed in the last ten months. His shooting followed a wider shootout in an East Harlem public-housing project, in connection with which three men are still being sought.
