A fire that ran through eight row homes in South Philadelphia early Saturday has killed four children and displaced over forty people. The fire began shortly before 3 a.m. and was under control by 4 a.m., fire department officials say.

The cause of the fire has not yet been revealed. According to reports from the scene, the fast-moving fire destroyed eight row homes and engulfed ten houses. The oldest child was four years old and the youngest was one month. There have been no further details on other injuries.

Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Derrick Sawyer said, "This is a tragic, tragic day for the city of Philadelphia. Tragic. We lost four children today."
