Ohio Cop Placed on Leave After Facebook Comment Celebrating Death of Black Lives Matter Activist
Dayton, Ohio-area cop Lee Cyr has been placed on leave after a Facebook comment reading “Love a happy ending” appeared next to his name under a thread about the death of Black Lives Matter activist MarShawn McCarrel II, who committed suicide on the steps of the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus on Monday.
The thread is here, though I suggest you don’t read the comments. The post allegedly made by Cyr has since been deleted, and according to the Dayton Daily News an internal investigation is under way to determine if Cyr was the one who made the comment, which would violate the Fairborn Police Department’s social media policy. It also appears as if Cyr’s Facebook page has been deactivated or deleted.
McCarrel II, 23, reportedly helped organize protests in Ohio after the 2014 death of Michael Brown and had also founded an activist group named Pursuing Our Dreams, which aimed to help the homeless population in Columbus.
