According to the BBC, nine-year-old Oceana Irizarry has died from injuries after being hit by a plane while walking on a Florida beach on Sunday. Her dad Ommy, an Army sergeant who was walking with her, died at the scene.

The pilot of the small plane, Karl Kokomoor, and his passenger David Theen, weren't injured. It's not exactly clear how they managed to hit the Irizarrys on Florida's Caspersen Beach—according to the Associated Press, Kokomoor "radioed the airport that he was having trouble with the plane and was planning to land on the beach."

The Irizarry family released this statement today: "Our precious Oceana has joined her daddy in heaven. There are no words to describe the suffering we are experiencing. Their loss is devastating to our family and to everyone who knew them."
