New York City Filled With Smokey Odor From New Jersey Forest Fire

If you live in New York City and smelled smoke this morning, don't worry, your building probably isn't on fire: Late Sunday and early Monday, smoke from a forest fire in New Jersey wafted into parts of Manhattan, Staten Island, and Brooklyn

The 30-acre fire, which is now contained but not extinguished, broke out on Sunday in Wharton State Forest, about 90 miles south of Manhattan. New York City's Office of Emergency Management tweeted about the fire early Monday:

Due to a brush fire in the Wharton State Park in New Jersey, residents in Staten Island & Brooklyn may smell smoke.

Beyond Brooklyn and Staten Island, residents and workers in lower Manhattan have also reported smelling smoke. The odor is expected to stick around through the rest of the day.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
