Mother of Oklahoma Beheading Suspect: "That's Not My Son"
The mother of Alton Alexander Nolen—the Oklahoma processing plant employee accused of stabbing two of his co-workers and beheading one—has released a statement through her Facebook page in which she expresses her dismay at her son's terrifying behavior. "On behalf of my son, Alton Nolen, my heart is so heavy right now," Joyce Nolen says on video. "I know my son. He was raised up in a loving home. I know what they are saying that he done. But I'm going to tell you this, that's not my son."
In the days following last Thursday's attack, police have learned that Nolen, 30, had recently converted to Islam and apparently attempted to convert a number of his co-workers at the Vaughn Foods processing plant. From the Washington Post:
One of the federal officials called Nolen's Facebook page "provocative," saying it included a photo of Osama bin Laden. A Facebook page appearing to be Nolen's includes a wide range of photos, including one depicting a beheading and another of Omar al-Shishani, a prominent Islamic State fighter who is Chechen.
The FBI, which is now assisting in the investigation, however, "has so far found no links to terrorism," the Post reports.
The Norman Transcript has unearthed what they believe to be a Facebook page started by Nolen under the name Jah'Keem Yisrael, which includes of a number of incendiary images and status updates.
According to the Norman Transcript, police expect to charge Nolen with first degree murder and assault and battery with a deadly weapon in the killing of Colleen Hufford, 54, and the stabbing of Traci Johnson, 43.
"I know my son. My son was raised up in a loving home," Joyce Nolen says in her video. "My son was raised up believing in God. That's what he believed."
