A Long Island family lived out a nightmare Halloween this year when they opened their door to some trick-or-treaters who turned out to be dressed up as masked gunmen intent on robbing them.

The couple, whose two-year-old child was also home, were reportedly forced inside and tied up by three men wearing Halloween masks. NBC reports that the husband was also "repeatedly pistol whipped" when he refused an instruction.

The masked men were joined by two more accomplices—a man and woman. Police say one of the armed men wore a werewolf mask and the woman wore goggles.

The wife was apparently able to free herself while the robbery was still in progress and escaped to a neighbor's home, prompting the invaders to flee. Her husband had to be hospitalized due to the lacerations on his face.

The Halloween horror crew are still at large.
