In a Badlands-style murder, a 19-year-old Maryland man has been charged with stabbing the father of his girlfriend, a real-estate agent and local blogger, who was popular among Ellicott City residents.

Jason Bulmer revealed to police that his girlfriend, 14-year-old Morgan Lane Arnold, had been asking him for months to kill both her father and his fiancee. Her father, Dennis Lane, was stabbed to death by Bulmer early Friday morning. The pair had planned to run away to California after the intended double-murders, but police found them still in the house, with the fiancee, Denise Geiger, unscathed, after Bulmer had murdered the older Lane.

Arnold had been very specific with her request for Bulmer to kill Geiger and Lane, asking him to stab them in the throat — 10 times for him and 15 times for her.

Lane's blog, which covered business and pleasure in Ellicott City and Columbia, MD, has been receiving an outpouring of condolences since his untimely death. In his last few posts, he talked about the closing of an L.L. Bean Store as well as a slight change in his job.

The two teens had been discussing the murder plot for months, but "communications concerning the murder became more frequent within the past several weeks," a detective wrote in courtroom documents.

Bulmer's father, who lives in Michigan, recalls that his son reassured him about their age-gap. "He tells me he likes her, wants to be with her," Bulmer's father said.

Both Bulmer and Arnold are being held without bail.
