A man arrested for trying to rob an ATM using a blowtorch was discovered to be wearing homemade armored underwear.

Mark Fischer, 32, was arrested by Portland, Oregon, police after he apparently tried to cut open the cash machine with an acetylene torch. He attempted to hold off the officers with pepper spray, but they chased him down and apprehended him in a parking lot.

Along with the pepper spray and the torch, Fischer was also equipped with a knife, a stun gun, two ballistic vests, and those magic underpants. The AP reports he had sewn ballistic panels into "undergarments covering his arms, legs, back and crotch."

Instead of protecting him, though, his underwear only made things worse. Among several other charges, he was arrested for being a felon in possession of body armor.
