Jill Abramson at Wake Forest: "What’s Next for Me? I Don’t Know!"
During her commencement speech at Wake Forest's graduation ceremony this morning, Jill Abramson addressed her recent firing as Executive Editor of the New York Times, comparing her current position to that of many of the graduating students.
"What's next for me? I don't know!" she said. "So I'm in exactly the same boat as many of you. And like you, I'm a little scared but also a little excited."
She said her reign at the Times was the "honor of my life," and she offered her recent termination as a sort of lesson about the importance of resilience.
She even addressed her famous New York Times tattoo, which a student asked her about Sunday evening.
"Are you going to get that Times' T removed?" the student asked. Abramson's response: "Not a chance!"
