J.K. Rowling Posts New Story Featuring a 34-Year-Old Harry Potter
Bajillion-selling author J.K. Rowling has been hard at work in her Harry Potter universe this year, scripting the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but her best-known characters have remained on the shelf since the series concluded. Until last night, that is, when Rowling returned to Harry, Ron, and Hermione, now in their 30s, in a new story on her Pottermore website.
The piece is a report from gossip columnist Rita Skeeter about Dumbledore's army reuniting at the Quidditch World Cup final between Brazil and Bulgaria. Timely!
Harry's starting to go grey and has a mysterious new scar from his battles as an Auror. Ron has taken over his brothers' magical joke shop, and Hermione, forever the Most Likely to Succeed from her Hogwarts graduating class, is rising through the ranks at the Ministry of Magic while raising two kids.
The story also contains tantalizing spoilers for a few supporting characters, which only makes it more frustrating that Rowling has "no plans" to continue writing about grown-up Harry and friends. She will, however, deliver a report on the Quidditch World Cup next week, to coincide with the real-world conclusion of the biggest event in Muggle football.
Because that's totally as interesting as where Harry got another scar. Sure.
