J.J. Abrams Releases First Footage From Set of Star Wars Episode VII
Filming on Star Wars Episode VII started in Abu Dhabi just five days ago, and director J.J. Abrams has already posted footage from the desert set. Abrams is notorious for going to great lengths to shut down leaks—he literally built a wall to prevent spying on the Star Trek 2 set—but he'll make an exception for charity.
This peek at the set and some of the creatures doubles as a fundraising announcement for UNICEF Innovation Labs, through the celebrity raffle site Omaze. Abrams is giving away a trip to the London set and a cameo in the film to one lucky winner.
But, more importantly for everyone else: Puppets and practical effects! Their presence doesn't mean the movie won't suck, but it's sure a good sign.
