After capturing the Tabqa military base in northeastern Syria, ISIS militants reportedly killed at least 65 Syrian soldiers on Wednesday. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, "some were shot to death, while others were killed with knives." ISIS also bragged on Twitter about killing "about 200" government prisoners, though the Associated Press couldn't immediately verify that claim.

A U.N. commission has now accused ISIS of crimes against humanity in Syria. (The commission already accused the militants of crimes against humanity in Iraq.) According to the AP, ISIS posted photos of the near-naked government prisoners on Twitter as proof of the mass murder.

Over the weekend, President Obama authorized air surveillance of ISIS in Syria, the first step towards launching airstrikes in the country.
