Internet Superhero Batman bin Suparman Jailed for Villainous Crimes
A Singaporean man who rose to Internet prominence after a photo of his ID card appeared to show his birth name as Batman bin Superman was sentenced to nearly three years in jail after committing a series of very un-superhero-like crimes.
According to local reports, Suparman, an unemployed 23-year-old with just under 11,000 fans on Facebook, was arrested back in August after robbing the same store on two separate occasions.
He subsequently pleaded guilty to several related and unrelated offenses, including six counts of theft, two counts of trespassing, and one count of heroin consumption.
Only three of the charges made it to trial: The break-ins at SGF Billards & Marketing Singapore, and the theft of his older brother Nurazman Suparman's debit card.
He was ultimately sentenced to 33 months in jail.
Many of Suparman's fans gathered on his official fanclub Facebook page to call for his immediate release.
