James Holmes, the man convicted for the shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, was reportedly assaulted by another inmate at the Colorado State Penitentiary. The 27-year-old inmate apparently lunged and swung at Holmes but did not injure him on October 8.

The Denver Post reports:

Mark “Slim” Daniels, 27, will be charged with assault on a correctional officer and an assault on Holmes, said Adrienne Jacobson, spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Corrections.

“Daniels and Holmes are both housed at CSP. The incident occurred during an offender movement,” Jacobson said.

Daniels, who is serving time for menacing, auto theft, assault and smuggling contraband into prison, sent a letter to The Denver Post detailing the assault. The contents of the letter have not been released.

Holmes, who was sentenced 12 life sentences plus 3,318 years in jail for the July 2012 shooting, which killed 12 people and wounded 70. He is not eligible for patrol, He is not eligible for parole, and the judge that sentenced Holmes said that it would ensure that he “never set foot in free society again.”
