In April 2012, researchers at the New England Complex Systems Institute mined the "emotional content" of 600,000 tweets—collected over a two-week period—to figure out the happiest places in New York. According to the map above, some of the worst places in the city include JFK, Penn Station, and basically any cemetery, while the best (or happiest) are Central Park, the Botanical Garden and surprisingly, Times Square. (Don't Tweet from cemeteries, ever.)
Oh dear God, tell me that none of the cemetery Teets were: "What the fuck? It's dark, I can't breathe! My nails are breaking!"

It doesn't surprise me that there's tons of happy tweets in Times Square- it's all tourists. And regardless of how jaded you've become, the first time you see Times Square is a pretty cool thing. New Yorkers probably mostly pass through as quickly as possible without stopping to tweet.

I remember for about three months after I first moved to New York, every time I walked through Times Square I would think "THIS IS SO EXTRAORDINARY I WILL NEVER TIRE OF THIS GLORIOUS CARNIVAL." If there had been Twitter back then, I'd have generated some pretty keyed-up nonsense, I'm sure.

The thing I still love and will never get over is being on the N/Q/R/D at night going over the Manhattan Bridge and seeing the view of the city. I've been here a long time, but when I see that I still think "omg, I can't believe I live here."
How did they account for the ironic tweets coming out of Brooklyn?
