When did the definition of "exploration" get so lame? Back in the day, discovering new worlds was marked by swashbuckling adventures, exotic orientalism, 1000 story creatures, and unearthing ancient riches.

Now, "exploration" is slow crawling video of algae with a coma-inducing NPR voice-over? Pffft. Lame.
I'm currently on board the Okeanos Explorer serving as the telepresence team lead for the vessel and responsible for sending out the live feeds. It's been a real privilege for all of us out here to be able to share these dives with scientists and public audiences from around the world. Thanks for the shout out and thanks for watching!
Sidenote: most of the telepresence team are voracious readers of Jalopnik and Gizmodo.
The ship's crew? Lifehacker. :)
I'm one of the big rocks you just passed and serve as the rock lead. We love you guys! Keep up the great work.
This is fascinating! Thanks for sharing this with the world. I'm loving it.
I joined just in time to hear "That rock isn't the same shape as the ones we'd normally see - oh look a dismembered crab." Though this is interesting.
Megalodon is going to eat this submersible.
